"The yoga trip was a wonderfully spiritual adventure. The
crew must be commended for an excellent job as the food, accommodations
and guidance on the river were without compare!"

Yoga on the River
August 8, 9 & 10, 2008
Give yourself the gift of time away
from routines and responsibilities,
time to relax and refresh your
body, mind and spirit.
Celebrate
the gift of life...
Join us for a
yoga retreat on the beautiful Klamath river in
far northern California. The Klamath offers the unique combination
of exciting rapids, calm relaxing stretches, warm summer waters
ideal for swimming, rugged mountain scenery, abundant
and diverse wildlife...superb camping
on secluded sandy beaches. In nature, dancing with the
river, soaring with the eagles, playing like otters, practicing
the peace pose like a heron on river's edge.
Yoga is an ancient
science of individual and group practices that promotes
the enlivenment of human consciousness and happiness.
Yoga means harmony and unity in mind, body, spirit and nature.
River yoga involves time
set aside morning, noon and evening to reflect on nature’s divine
qualities, postures of relaxation and strengthening,
breathing exercises to calm the nervous system and mind, meditation
to experience peace and philosophy to understand and motivate.
All are welcome. People with individual yoga practices and
people seeking to know more will be united. Private yoga time
will also be encouraged.
A typical river yoga
day arises with the light and sets with the stars’ arrival.
We meet in the morning before breakfast for a group practice.
At noon, before lunch, we tune into ourselves, the river
and the day’s experiences. Late afternoon, before dinner,
when shadows begin to grow, we set camp, rest and get together
for another group practice. Campfire circle allows us to share
highlights of the outer river journey and inner yoga journey
while we laugh and share stories.
Our days dancing on the
river in rafts or inflatable kayaks will
be filled with thrill and fun. We will have ample opportunities
to swim, rest, observe nature and wildlife, to discuss natural
history and learn about river ecology and the local indigenous
people.
All meals are included,
from lunch the first day through lunch the last day. We
serve sumptuous, healthy wholesome food, prepared in abundance
with great care and loving attention...We are famous for
our river cuisine and, to the best of our abilities, we cater
to any diet restrictions and preferences.
River yoga arose from John
McDermott's personal yoga studies and experiences of over
30 years. Ancient and modern knowledge and practice of
yoga combined with a river journey is a unique opportunity
to live, breathe and enjoy peace. As a seasoned river guide
with over 24 years experience, John emphasizes safety, fun and
thrills for all. Thousands of people taken down the river with lives
changed, uplifted and refocused support John's confidence in the
value of a river journey. Sustained yoga practice and teaching
highlights his enthusiasm for yoga.
